Q1:What is your position and at which school?

Medical Student @ the University of Toronto

Q2: Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi! I’m Rebecca, a 1st year medical student at the University of Toronto. Entering medical school was not a short or easy journey and I totally understand as I have once been in your position!

Prior to entering medical school, I have completed a BSc from McGill in Psychology and Chemistry. Afterwards, I completed my MSc at UofT doing sleep and dementia research! Throughout these two degrees, I discovered my passion for teaching and mentoring others.

A bit about my med journey: I applied three times and have gotten interviews at UBC and Queens all three times and on my third cycle I was invited to interview at UofT as well. I scored in the 4th quantile (highest quantile) on the CASPer!

Outside of medicine, I love to hike, read, travel, try new foods, and work out!

Q3: What’s one thing that others may not know about you?

I have my scuba diving licence 🙂

Q4: If you didn’t go into the field you are in right now, what field would you have gone into?

Computer science. I would have wanted to start my own healthcare tech startup to help in the healthcare field whatever way I can!

Q5: What is the most difficult interview question in your opinion?

Situational questions. These were the most difficult because sometimes it was hard for me to incorporate personal examples and stand out. I often tried “too hard” to think outside the box and not give the same response as other applicants I forgot to be myself.

Q6: What do you think contributed the most to your success?

Practicing and getting genuine feedback. Also remembering to be myself and relax before the interview!

Q7: What was your application journey like?

A bit about my med journey: I applied three times and have gotten interviews at UBC and Queens all three times and on my third cycle I was invited to interview at UofT as well. I scored in the 4th quantile (highest quantile) on the CASPer and would love to help you prep for it!

Q8: Would you like to share some statistics with us? (This can be in the form of GPA/MCAT/Casper scores, the number of schools you applied to and got accepted, etc.)

GPA: 3.86
MCAT: 516
Casper: 4th quantile

Q9: What services do you offer?

Brainstorming, application editing (extracurricular entries, essays etc), scholarship application, and graduate school application.

Q10: What’s your biggest tip for students applying to your field?

Remember to take a step back and appreciate how far you have come. Often we forget that we have accomplished so much and forget to applaud ourselves throughout this journey towards medicine. This really helps you build up the resiliency and perseverance needed in medicine as it is not a sprint but a marathon.

Q11: Why should students choose you as their consultant?

As someone who does not have a very “high” GPA, I understand how important it is to craft your application in order to stand out. I am someone that gives constructive feedback in order to help my students grow and succeed. I believe that I am someone who not only cares about my students but also am their cheerleader as well throughout the whole journey! Not to mention, I am very friendly and approach so that is also a bonus 🙂

Q12: Any other information you would like to share with students?

I understand how hard the application journey is as I have once been in your shoes. Thus, I will try my best to help you succeed in order to achieve your dreams. If you have any hesitations or questions about your application that you may not feel comfortable sharing with your peers feel free (if you are comfortable of course!) to share with me and I will try to help to the best of my abilities.
