Q1:What is your position and at which school?
Third year student
Q2: Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Emily Cherevaty, and I am a Phase 3 veterinary student at the Ontario Veterinary College. I completed my undergrad in Animal Biology at the University of Guelph. My journey to veterinary school has been anything but linear, and I am proud to share a passion for veterinary sciences with those both older and younger than I, looking to join the profession.
My life has been spent dedicated to animal care and welfare, with past focus and specialization in bovine species, and recent focus on felines. I love cattle and small ruminants, and I hope to soon specialize in reproductive medicine once in practice. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering at farms with sheep, goats, and cattle, as well as reading up on how to start my own hobby farm.
Some interesting facts about me; I am a dual citizen of Canadian and American citizenship. I spent summer of 2023 in Hawaii, working at a cat-only clinic. I work part-time at a vintage/thrift store!
Q3: What’s one thing that others may not know about you?
I have a strong passion for film photography!
Q4: If you didn’t go into the field you are in right now, what field would you have gone into?
Dairy Cattle nutrition
Q5: What is the most difficult interview question in your opinion?
What characteristics make a good veterinarian, and why?
Q6: What do you think contributed the most to your success?
Staying true to myself, and really focusing on building relationships with those around me – mentors, clients, and patients alike.
Q7: What was your application journey like?
Non-linear… I transferred internally into a science-based undergraduate degree after not being able to obtain acceptance from high school. I went to summer school for a few math courses, and went to University of Guelph for International Development for one year. Then, I transferred into Animal Biology from there. Afterward, I worked exceptionally hard to be accepted into OVC on my first try!
Q8: Would you like to share some statistics with us? (This can be in the form of GPA/MCAT/Casper scores, the number of schools you applied to and got accepted, etc.)
4th quartile CASPer, top achiever in the personal/MMI-interview.
Q9: What services do you offer?
CASPer, interview prep, application review and prep, general chat sessions.
Q10: What’s your biggest tip for students applying to your field?
Do everything that YOU think you need to do to mentally and emotionally to prepare yourself for the application process. Do not compare your journey to that of others!
Q11: Why should students choose you as their consultant?
As previously mentioned, I have a non-linear journey and I’ve experienced many challenges and ups and downs to get where I am today. I would love to be able to inspire and pass on my past experiences in a way that benefits others. Achieving a high rating on my CASPer and MMI/personal interview provides students with assurance that the preparation I did will be beneficial in one way or another to their future success and applications.
