Q1:What is your position and at which school?
Medical Student at University of Toronto
Q2: Tell us a bit about yourself!
I love dance, sports, and travelling! I have been dancing since I was about 5, and have recently switched from competitive dance to performance dance. My favourite styles of dance include jazz and contemporary. My favourite sports are volleyball and soccer! I always love trying new activities, especially water sport activities. I’ve been on jet boats, I’ve been wind-surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing, kayaking, and more! If I could live by the beach, I definitely would.
Q3: What’s one thing that others may not know about you?
I like listening to country music a lot! This is a something others may not know about me as I do not listen to it all the time, nor did I grow up along the countryside or have friends/family from there. However, country music is one of my favourite genres.
Q4: If you didn’t go into the field you are in right now, what field would you have gone into?
I would have gone into the medicine field, but instead of a doctor, I would have been a technician! I have 2 cousins that have gone into medical radiation sciences and loved it! They have great jobs and get to travel to various hospitals, as well as interact with new patients everyday!
Q5: What is the most difficult interview question in your opinion?
What your weakness is, as this could potentially be a deal-breaker as something you may not think is a bad weakness may just be the interviewer’s pet peeve.
Q6: What do you think contributed the most to your success?
I think the hard-work and determination I had, along with the constant amazing support I received from friends and family contributed the most. My family always took me to various volunteer activities and allowed me to have the ability to focus on my schoolwork, instead of having to get 2 jobs to help with the bills, which is actually something both my parents experienced growing up.
Q7: What was your application journey like?
It was definitely hard, as I did not have a lot of friends/family in the physician occupation, so I mainly had to deep-dive into Reddit and other online resources to obtain tips.
Q8: Would you like to share some statistics with us? (This can be in the form of GPA/MCAT/Casper scores, the number of schools you applied to and got accepted, etc.)
GPA: 4.00
MCAT: 518 (130/127/130/131)
Casper: 4th quartile
Other acceptances: UBC (as an OOP); applied to 5 schools
Q9: What services do you offer?
Interview prep, casper prep, application editing, general consultation, and more!
Q10: What’s your biggest tip for students applying to your field?
Be as detailed as possible and back it up with evidence!! When listing activities and describing them, make sure to be detailed in what you did, as well as list the impacts/evidence of what you did (ex. Donated 547 pairs of gloves to hospitals)
Q11: Why should students choose you as their consultant?
I am not only dedicated to helping you improve your application, but what sets me apart is I understand what it is like to not have anyone in your family or circle in the medicine field. Thus, I want to be the ‘big sister’ that is in medical school that can help you! I would be not only a mentor but also a friend who you can always message and keep in touch with!
