Q1:What is your position and at which school?
Medical Student – Schulich School of Medicine
Q2: Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Emily and I am an incoming medical student. I love the outdoors and the beach and I am always down for a new adventure. A big reason why I wanted to pursue medicine is because I did a lot of service work in African countries growing up. I hope that global healthcare is a big part of my future career.
Q3: What’s one thing that others may not know about you?
I am terrible at almost every sport.
Q4: If you didn’t go into the field you are in right now, what field would you have gone into?
I would have loved to be a writer.
Q5: What is the most difficult interview question in your opinion?
“Tell me about yourself!”
Q6: What do you think contributed the most to your success?
I spent a lot of time thinking about how each of my experiences contributed to why I wanted to be a doctor. Being able to write about what motivates me and why an experience was valuable is something I think made my application stand out. Be able to speak about why you did what you did and what you learned!
Q7: What was your application journey like?
I applied to US MD and DO as well as Canadian schools and out of province schools. It was a very long process that required a lot of patience and hard work. Ultimately I’m glad I did it but some guidance during the process would have been amazing. It is also very important to have the right support during this time.
Q8: Would you like to share some statistics with us? (This can be in the form of GPA/MCAT/Casper scores, the number of schools you applied to and got accepted, etc.)
I applied with a 3.95 GPA and a 514 MCAT (131 CARS). I applied to 30 schools, did 8 interviews, had 6 acceptances, one waitlist and one rejection. I was accepted to Western and Toronto and I will be attending Western in the fall 🙂
Q9: What services do you offer?
I offer CARS tutoring and admissions help to both US and Canadian schools. I am very familiar with the US MD/DO application portals and OMSAS.
Q10: What’s your biggest tip for students applying to your field?
Be informed! Don’t wait until you are actually applying to get informed about the application cycle.
Q11: Why should students choose you as their consultant?
I have been tutoring for over 10 years so I am very familiar with how to connect with students and to personalize my services based on individual needs. Everyone is different and so no two students can be treated exactly the same.
